A family friendly destination with fun activities for the whole family to enjoy!!
NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – New Smyrna Beach is a quaint and quiet beachside community located on Florida’s central east coast. The small-town charm is showcased through its wide, white sand shoreline as well as along the downtown areas of brick side walked Flagler Avenue and artsy Canal Street. It is a great destination for families to enjoy a vacation getaway during any time of the year.
Besides swimming, surfing, boogie boarding, fishing, shell seeking and sandcastle building on the beach, the New Smyrna Beach area has a variety of activities available for the whole family to enjoy. The Marine Discovery Center is a family favorite as it offers educational classes, kid summer camps, fun kayak tours and the Dolphin Discovery Boat Tour. The boat tour is where passengers will learn all about the marine and wildlife in the area while trying to spot dolphins in the Intracoastal Waterway. It is uncommon to not see a family of dolphins while enjoying the educational cruise!
Along with the Marine Discovery Center and its own educational kayak tours, there are many other local businesses in town that offer kayak/paddleboarding tours and rentals. Not only do these businesses offer kayak rentals, but many of them offer bicycle, scooter, golf cart and beach buggy rentals where families and individuals can ride along the street of Flagler Avenue and even on the sandy beach! The coastal atmosphere of Flagler Avenue gives visitors that sense of relaxation in a safe and fun beach town.
Many families who enjoy the beach and being outside will love the eco-tourism in the area. The Canaveral National Seashore is a great place where families can enjoy a beautiful, quiet beach on the east side, the Mosquito Lagoon on the west side, and a long stretch of nature and a bird sanctuary running south. There are also plenty of multi-use trails in New Smyrna Beach and its neighboring community of Edgewater were people can walk, bike, horseback ride or rollerblade. Smyrna Dunes Park is another park that has two miles of boardwalk and an ecosystem of its own. Not to mention, the park has a dog-friendly beach where visitors can bring their four-legged family member to enjoy the saltwater splash.
Port Orange is New Smyrna Beach’s north next door neighbor. There, families will find the fun adventure park, Go-Kart City, where kids and parents can enjoy go-kart riding, batting cages, an arcade and mini-golfing. Near Port Orange is Ponce Inlet, which is home to the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse, Florida’s tallest masonry lighthouse. Many families love visiting the lighthouse to climb the 203 steps to the stop and see the breathtaking views of New Smyrna Beach and the inlet.
Not too much farther north is the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida where individuals, families, and couples can enjoy taking a behind-the scenes tour of the Speedway and learn all about the famous motorsport corporation of NASCAR. Back in New Smyrna Beach is the New Smyrna Speedway, which has been home to some of the finest stock car racing in the entire country for more than 45 years.
In addition, there are many annual events held throughout the year that families can attend to enjoy the fun, local atmosphere of New Smyrna Beach. Finally, New Smyrna Beach’s popularity with families is due, in part, to the wide variety of accommodations that suit every taste and need. Guests staying a week or longer might consider a condominium, which offers spacious living for families with amenities like fully equipped kitchens and separate bedrooms. Many oceanfront house rentals are ideal for an extended stay or larger group with easy access to downtown areas. Several RV parks and campgrounds provide freedom for those who crave the great outdoors. Regardless of preference, New Smyrna Beach is a great destination where families can create new memories to cherish forever.
