Marlow’s Tavern has launched a fresh new summer menu featuring creatively trendy new dinner and drink offerings, as well as the decadent “sweet stuff” menu. Grilled salmon or chicken, roast chicken panini, tuna salad, and Marlow’s Famous Hummus accompanied by refreshing side items like mint barley risotto, orange and radish slaw with citrus vinaigrette, roasted fingerling potato, and grilled, toasty pita points are all so very tempting, but I rarely get the opportunity to thoroughly enjoy dessert because I have yet to locate a second stomach. This time around, I’m taking full advantage of being an adult. I’m breaking the rules and going straight to dessert – spoiling my dinner completely – because the “sweet stuff” genuinely warrants a spotlight of its own. CLASSIC CREME BRULEE
NYC Classic, House-Made with Madagascar Vanilla Bean and Crispy Sweet Crust
Creme Brulee is a traditional treat, but something about the Marlow’s version is a step above the standard. There’s generally more flavor to their version than others I’ve had. The cream is thick without being overly heavy and regretful an hour later. Can’t deny the timeless appeal of the crispy-creamy combination!
POT DE CREME CHOCOLATE PUDDING
House-Made Chocolate Pudding, Chocolate Sauce, Salted Caramel Whipped Cream and Shortbread Cookie
Another item that you may not expect to be overwhelmed by is pudding, but Marlow’s brings this boring , simplistic dish to a new level of yum with an added layer of rich chocolate and just-right addition of salt to the whipped cream topper. Thick, creamy, substantial, and off-the-charts tasty!
FRIED BANANA SPLIT
Phyllo Wrapped Banana, Panko Crusted, Vanilla Ice Cream, Chocolate, Strawberry and Caramel Sauces with Salted Caramel Whipped Cream
Talk about turning normal on its ear! The Fried Banana Split at Marlow’s may be one of the most tantalizingly scrumptious desserts I’ve encountered to date. Being a good southern girl, I believe that anything can be made better when fried, and this is no exception. The size of this one would be perfect to share, capping off a dinner date!
Great to pair with dinner options or dessert, two drinks specifically deserve a special acknowledgement. The Iced Toffee Coffee is a house-brewed cold coffee with Cask & Crew Walnut Toffee Whiskey, served on the rocks and topped with salted caramel. Very strong in taste and content, this one topples Starbucks with no effort at all, combining coffee with alcohol and a tease of sweetness to weave through the bitter. Perfection! The Pom Collins (see what they did there?) is a refreshing play on the standard TOM Collins, replacing Gin with Tito’s Vodka. Pama Liquor swaps for soda to add that summery fruit flavor, and tiny little pomegranate seeds bubble in the mix. Beats a lemonade any day, right?
