St. Augustine Founder's Day Activities Kick off September Outdoor and Virtual Celebrations on Florida's Historic Coast

St. Augustine, Fla – (September 2, 2020)…The Historic Florida Militia will present a commemoration of the 455th anniversary of the founding of the City of St. Augustine by Pedro Menendez de Aviles on September 5 at the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park in St. Augustine.

This event will kick off a series of live and virtual events that celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Florida's Historic Coast, including the Sing Out Loud Music Festival, and Pilgrimage for the Planet.

On Saturday, September 5, at 11 a.m., a processional with Pedro Menendez and his Spanish entourage (historically clad living history interpreters) march through the front gates of the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park with flags and musket firings. The procession leads to the Fountain of Youth's Boathouse for a ceremony to commemorate the First Thanksgiving that occurred September 8, 1565, followed by a blessing. Guests of the park will be treated to a cake to help celebrate the occasion.
